Labour Day Long weekend

Saturday 3rd, 4th & 5th October 2020

Chess Centre of South Australia, 10 Ranelagh St Adelaide 5000

The Hosworth FIDE Tournament

Format: 6 Round Swiss

Time Control: 90 minutes + 30 Sec increment per move for each player.

Rounds: 9:30am and 2:30pm each day

The games will be rated by FIDE – the World Chess Federation.

$1200 cash in prizes

Entry Fee: $70 Adult, $60 Concession $35 Junior

The Hosworth Under 1600 Tournament

Format: 8 Round Swiss for anyone with a rating under 1600 or no rating

Time Control: 60 minutes + 10 seconds per move for each player

Rounds: 9:30am, 12.30pm and 3:30pm

The Games will be rated by the Australian Chess Federation

Entry Fee: $50 Adult $40 Concession $25 Junior

Entries will be accepted at the door 15 minutes before the first round.

Players have the option to take a half-point bye in the FIDE Tournament or 2 half-point byes in the U1600 but not for the last round

Social Distancing Rules

September 5th, 2020

In the interest of safety during these challenging times, the following policies have been implemented at the Chess Centre:

• Standard 1.5m social distancing protocol will apply.

• The traditional pre/post game handshake will not be permitted; nor any other physical contact.

• Use of hand sanitiser will be mandatory on entry and exit.

• Your name and telephone number will need to be recorded on entry.

• Clipboards will not be used, only score sheets.

• Pieces and clocks will be sanitised by staff after the tournament.

• The four discrete areas of the Centre (tournament hall, office, analysis room and canteen) will be subject to strict maximum occupancy rules as per the signage.

• In addition to the usual tournament official(s), identified stewards will be on hand to ensure compliance.

• Anyone exhibiting coronavirus symptoms consistent with a reasonable person’s understanding thereof will be asked to leave.

If you are feeling unwell we ask that you to kindly stay home.

Chess Centre Closure

With the well-being of its players and visitors being paramount, the SA Chess Centre will be closed until, at least, the

7th APRIL 2020

The COVID-19 situation will be reviewed by the SACA Committee at that time. Any updates on the situation will be published as they occur.

Due to the closure, the final three rounds of the 2020 SA Championships and Candidates have been postponed. The remaining rounds will be rescheduled in the near future.

SACA thanks everyone for their understanding of the situation and hopes to see everyone at the chess board soon!

UPDATE: 3rd of April, 2020

Due to the ongoing concerns of the COVID-19 situation, as well as government regulations and recommendations, SACA’s closure will be extended to at least the 28th of April.

We hope that the impacts of this crisis will lessen in the coming weeks, and we will be able to open our doors once more in the near future.

South Australian Championships 2020

The SA Championship is a qualifying tournament for the $10,000 Sulik prize.

When: 7.00pm, consecutive Tuesdays from the 4th of February to the 31st of March 2020
Venue: The Chess Centre of South Australia,
10 Ranelagh Street, Adelaide.
Entry Fee: $150 Adult, $120 Concession, late entry fee $10 (after 12pm 4th of February)
Qualification limits apply.
Format: 9 Rounds, Round-Robin format. FIDE Rated.
Players are expected to play all rounds.
Time Control: Fischer Classic – 90 Minutes + 30 Seconds a move
1st: $750
2nd: $350
3rd: $150
