	Two Sections – Major and Minor
When:	Saturday 3rd of October to Monday 5th of October, 2026
Venue:	The Chess Centre of South Australia, 10 Ranelagh Street, Adelaide.
Details:	FIDE and ACF rated
	Entries will be accepted at the door up until 15 minutes before the start of first round. Late entries after this time may not be paired for Round 1. Registrations provided by the 23rd of September will receive a $10 discount. Registrations after 8pm on the 2nd of October will incur a $10 late fee. Free entry to W/GM and W/IMs, 50% discount to W/FM applicants

Major

Format:	6 rounds, Swiss System
Time Control:	90 minutes + 30 seconds a move Forfeit time is 30 minutes from commencement of play
Eligibility:	Open to all players.
Schedule:	10:00am and 2:30pm each day
	Players may request TWO half point bye in Rounds 1 – 5 with prior approval from the arbiter.
Entry Fee:	Adult – $100 Concession – $90 (Seniors, Juniors, Students)

Minor

Format:	7 rounds, Swiss System
Time Control:	60 minutes + 30 seconds a move Forfeit time is 30 minutes from commencement of play
Eligibility:	Open to all players rated below 1600 on the 2026 September ACF Normal Rating List. Unrated ACF Normal players will be eligible if their FIDE rating is less than 1750. Players who are completely unrated will need to seek approval from the DOP.
Round Times:	Saturday: 10:00am & 1:15pm Sunday: 10:00am & 1:15pm Monday: 10:00am, 1:15pm & 4:30pm
	Players may request TWO half point bye in Rounds 1 – 6 with prior approval from the arbiter.
Entry Fee:	Adult – $90 Concession – $80 (Seniors, Juniors, Students)

SA Rapid Chess Championship 2026

One of South Australia’s Championship events!

The winner keeps the title of SA Rapid Chess Champion until this time next year – where someone will try to take the crown!

When:	12.00pm, Sunday the 23rd of August, 2026
Venue:	The Chess Centre of South Australia, 10 Ranelagh Street, Adelaide.
Entry Fee:	$20 all players ($17 early bird fee for entries paid by 9th August) Registrations given after 10pm on the 22nd of August will incur a $5 late fee. Free entry to W/GM and W/IMs, %50 discount to W/FM applicants
Format:	Seven rounds, Swiss system. ACF & FIDE Rated.
Time Control:	Fischer Rapid – 15 minutes + 10 seconds Default time is 15 minutes from commencement of play.

2026 Zina Koodrin Memorial Checkmate Chess Tournaments

The Adelaide Checkmate Tournaments hold a special place in the SA Chess Calendar – they are often used to mark a Memorial event for those chess players or friends of chess who have passed away in the previous year. The first Checkmate event took place in August 2000 and marked the passing of Garry Koshnitsky who, along with his wife Evelyn, played a huge role in promoting chess both in SA and Australia – the couple devoted their lives to the game. Garry’s last word was appropriately ‘Checkmate’ and hence the overall title for the tournaments.

This year we are acknowledging the passing of Zina Koodrin who was the Chess Centre Manager for over 25 years, but her association with chess was much longer than that. Zina always loved chess, and despite many hardships and struggles never let them show with her dedication and passion for the game and her behind the scenes involvement.

Format:
6 Round Swiss

Time Control:
90 minutes + 30 Sec increment per move for each player.

Rounds:
Friday: 7:00pm
Saturday: 9:00am, 2:00pm & 7:00pm
Sunday: 9:00am & 2:00pm

The games will be ACF and FIDE rated

Entry Fee: $100 Adult, $90 Concession & Juniors

The Checkmate Challengers

Format:
6 Round Swiss for players U1600 ACF or U1750 FIDE

Time Control:
60 minutes + 30 seconds per move for each player

Rounds:
Saturday: 9:00am, 12.30pm and 4:00pm
Sunday: 9:00am, 12.30pm and 4:00pm

The games will be ACF and FIDE rated

Entry Fee: $80 Adult, $70 Concession & Juniors

Interclub Teams – All Grades 2026

When:	6:45 for 7:00pm start on consecutive Tuesdays, from 21st of April until the 30th of June, 2026
Venue:	The Chess Centre of South Australia, 10 Ranelagh Street, Adelaide.
Entry Fee:	$12 per night This tournament is open to all players. Teams are expected to field players for all boards every round. Teams are highly encouraged to have reserves.
Format:	11 round ACF-rated teams competition. 4 players per team. Swiss, Round Robin or Hybrid based on number of teams.
Time Control:	Fischer Bonus – 60 Minutes + 30 Seconds a move Default time is 30 minutes from start of play.
Grade Restrictions:	A-Grade: None B-Grade: Under 1600 ACF C-Grade: Under 1000 ACF C-Grade will only occur if enough interest
