SACA will be hosting an exciting new event – an invitational Round Robin tournament! The tournament was largely created so some members of our Arbiter team could obtain FIDE Arbiter norms. Veteran IA Charles Zworestine will be the Chief Arbiter with local NAs Simon Hope and Scott Colliver collecting their norms.
Per FIDE regulations, for a Round Robin norm a minimum all players must be FIDE rated at the conclusion of the event or a minimum ten players must be. To make sure no player loses their rating (a player whose rating falls below 1400 reverts to unrated) all players invited had to have a rating of more than 1600. To meet FIDEs ratings regulation we also had a rating cap of 1799 due to time constraints – as players 1800 or over must have a minimum 90 minutes for the game to be rated – for this tournament the time control is 30 + 30 which translates to 60 minutes for the game.
As all players are so closely rated the competition will be fierce and wild. We should expect some very interesting games throughout the weekend. We are looking into the idea of broadcasting the tournament on DGT boards, so you can keep watch of the action from home! More details and confirmation of that to be here soon!
This event is a CLOSED tournament! No further entries are being accepted for this event.
