This year’s Checkmate Championships are dedicated to the memory of Gavin Haydn. A loyal and highly regarded member of the Adelaide chess community.

In a first, both the Checkmate Open and Challengers will be FIDE Rated. And will boast a prize pool of $3,000; donated on behalf of Gavin from friends, family, and the Junior Chess League.

This event runs alongside the Gavin Haydn’s Memorial Checkmate Open 2022.

When: Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th of July, 2022
Venue: The Chess Centre of South Australia,
10 Ranelagh Street, Adelaide.
Limited Spacing: First 80 entries in the Checkmate events are guaranteed.
Entry Fee: Adult – $80
Concession – $60 (Seniors, Juniors, Students, Unemployed).

Format: Six rounds, Swiss System. FIDE rated. FIDE Rules apply.
Eligibility: Open to all players rated below 1600 on the current FIDE and/or ACF rating list. Please contact the DOP for clarification or exemption.
Time Control: Fischer – 60 minutes + 30 seconds a move
Prizes:
1st: $300
2nd: $200
3rd: $150
Rating Bracket: $100
Top Junior: $100
Top Unrated Junior: $100
Round Times:
Saturday: 9:00 AM, 12:30 PM, 4:00 PM
Sunday: 9:00 AM, 12:30 PM, 4:00 PM
Players may request up to ONE half point bye in Rounds 1 – 5 with prior approval from the arbiter.
