Finally it is about to happen – the Interclub Matches starts the day after Anzac Day – very soon!
The Interclub matches are, for many chess players, the highlight of their chess year. And now it is even better!
SACA has decided to remove the vaccination requirement for players and spectators at the Chess Centre, but there will still be a requirement to wear a mask. This requirement will be reviewed each month based on current cases and trends.
The more exciting news.. There will now be eleven (11) matches in the Interclub and Pennant tournaments! After popular demand SACA has decided to increase the amount of rounds/weeks of play by two! Giving more opportunites for players to have fun and improve their classic rating.
This Interclub season will start on the 26th April and end on the 5th July, every Tuesday night at 7:30pm.
The cost is still the same – $12 for an adult or $10 for concession or junior per evening.
The Matches are all played at the Chess Centre, 10 Ranelagh St, Adelaide, and start promptly at 7:30pm. The rounds themselves could take anywhere between 20 minutes or 3 hours to finish! It is exciting, fun, and very different to playing on the Internet – having an opponent directly opposite you makes the whole contest a real drama!
The time control for each player is 60 minutes + 30 seconds for every move made. You will need to write all moves by you and your opponent down. If you do not know how to score this isn’t a problem – we can teach you the process!
There are two Grades, an A Grade and a B Grade, and each team must field four players per round. The A Grade is an open field but will best cater for experienced and high level players. The B Grade is reserved for players with an ACF rating of lower than 1600 – ideal for new players to come and try Interclub out!
