South Australian Championship 2022

January 26th, 2022

This is our most important event for the year

It attracts 10 of the best players in the State each year and they battle it out over 9 gruelling weeks and it has a special unique feature, found nowhere else in the world – the Sulik Challenge!

Frank Sulik was an exceptionally talented chess player who won our State Championship nine times (check our Honours List on this website to see for yourself)! When he passed, his loved ones and relatives generously donated $10,000 and a trophy. Both the $10,000 and trophy will be given to the the first person to win the SA Chess Champion title 5 times, starting in 2011.

The SA Championship is the qualifying tournament for the $10,000 Sulik prize.
